One Million Meters for Soren, the Virtual edition

We are offering a "virtual" component of the One Million Meters for Soren swim as both Erika and Vaughn grew up outside of New Hampshire and have many swimming friends from back home. Plus, one million meters is over 650 miles and that is a lot of miles in one Sunday afternoon.

If you would like to swim for Soren, go to your local swimming hole, a pool will work as well, and swim for as long as you want and as far as you want. Then, have a picture taken of you with a piece of paper or a whiteboard with your name, how far you swam and an inspirational message for Soren. Send that picture to OneMillionMetersforSoren@hotmail.com. We'll post the pictures here and on the Facebook event page.

If you are able to collect donations or sponsors, please send the money via paypal or to:

If you have any questions, please email them to OneMillionMetersforSoren@hotmail.com.

One Million Meters for Soren Details

Cancer has struck the Seacoast Swimming Community. 6 year-old Soren, who swims for Seacoast, was recently diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma. This is a fairly aggressive yet often treatable form of Lymphoma. His whole family is immersed in the swimming community since his mother is the Masters swim coach at UNH and his father is a frequent pool visitor during his Ironman training.

What better way to rally around a young swimmer but to come together as a community and swim as many laps as possible. The goal is to get as many people to swim as many laps as possible with the hope to reach One Million Meters. We welcome you to come and swim at the Jenny Thompson pool in Dover starting at noon on September 8 and swim as many laps as you can. You can swim for an hour or two or three or four. All abilities are welcome. There will be lifeguards on deck as well as many talented coaches who can offer technique help if wanted.

This family is going to have many expenses on the road ahead. Soren has a younger brother and his parents will be traveling back and forth between Dover and Boston to make sure that Soren gets the best treatment possible. There will be times that they might need to stay at a hotel before an early morning hospital visit, gas to and from, tolls, parking, wear and tear on a car that could travel 140 miles in a day, food while they are in the hospital, etc. The ultimate goal of this event is to raise as much money as possible for this family so that they can focus completely on keeping Soren laughing, smiling, getting and staying healthy.

Please take a moment and register for this event. If you would like to make a donation now, you can do so with Paypal. You can also bring donations to the pool at the event.

Since we are all swimmers and all competitors, there will be a prize for the person who fund-raises the most. So print out the sponsor form, grab an envelope and start raising funds.

Thank you for your interest! Make sure to spread the word. The more the merrier!!

If you have any questions about the swim-a-thon, email OneMillionMetersforSoren@hotmail.com. If you are a local business and you would like to sponsor this event, please email OneMillionMetersforSoren@hotmail.com.
